Amrita Arora Biography

Amrita Arora, also known as Ammu, was born on 31st January 1978 in Mumbai, India to Joyce Polycrap, a Malayali and Anil Arora, a Punjabi. Amrita Arora’s sister Malaika Arora is also part of the celebrity circuit and is married to Arbaaz Khan who is actor Salman Khan’s brother.Before she took her wedding vows with Shakeel Ladak in March 2009, Amrita was going out with Kevin Otter, Ashmit Patel, Upen Patel and Usman Afzal.Amrita Arora won the MTV VJ Hunt and hosted MTV Chillout and MTV Houseful. She also appeared in ads like Elle 18, Ponds and Sunsilk.2002 Amrita Arora’s first movie was Kitne Door Kitne Paas opposite Fardeen Khan. Her second movie, a comedy based on The Whole Nine Yards called Awara Paagal Deewana, was more successful. She played Mona, a nagging wife.2003 Her only release in 2003 was David Dhawan’s Ek Aur Ek Gyarah, apart from an appearance in a song in the movie Zameen.2004 The year 2004 saw her in Shart: The Challenge, Girlfriend, a special appearance in Mujhse Shaadi Karoge and Rakht: What If You Can See the Future. Girlfriend caused a stir owing to an onscreen lesbian relationship between her character and the one played by Isha Koppikar. Her movies Raakh, Deha and Fight Club – Members Only were average. 2007 Her releases in 2007 came and went without any impact like Red: The Dark Side, Speed and Godfather. She also shook a leg in a song in Heyy Baby and then again in Om Shanti Om.2008 Her biggest hit in 2008 was Golmaal Returns, in which she played Esha, Ajay Devgan’s sister and Arshad Warsi’s fiancée. She was also seen in Hello, which was an adaptation of Chetan Bhagat’s One Night at a Call Center, Heroes and Kambakth Ishq.

Urmila Matondkar

Urmila Matondkar Biography

Urmila Matondkar was born on 4th February 1974 in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India. Her father was a lecturer.Matondkar was six years old when she started acting. Her first movie as a child actor was in Shyam Benegal’s Kalyug (1980). Her role as Pinky in Shekar Kapur’s Masoom was praised. She continued to act in movies like Dacait (1987), Zindagi (1987) and Bade Ghar Ki Beti (1989). 1991 to 1995 Urmila Matondkar’s debut as a lead actress was with Narasimha (1991). The movies that followed – Chamatkar (1992), Gaayam (1993), Aa Gale Lag Jaa (1994) - didn’t establish her as a strong actress. Her first hit was Ram Gopal Varma’s Rangeela (1995) as Mili, a struggling actress. She also got a more glamorous makeover with the help of designer Manish Malhotra. She was cast opposite experienced and successful stars like Aamir Khan and Jackie Shroff.1996 to 2000 With the success of Rangeela, her career picked up and she was seen with Kamla Hasan in Indian (1996) and Daud (1997). Ram Gopal Varma’s Satya (1998) was a critical success. She played a gangster’s unsuspecting girlfriend. In China Gate (1998) her dance number Chamma Chamma became extremely popular. While Mast (1999) saw her as an actress who falls in love with her fan, Kaun (1999) saw her as a psychotic woman. Both movies were directed by Ram Gopal Varma. 2001 to 2005 In Pyar Tune Kya Kiya (2001) she played Ria, a model who falls in love with a photographer who is married. She was seen in two songs in Lajja (2001) and Company (2002). In 2003, she played a woman possessed by a ghost in Ram Gopal Varma’s Bhoot, which also starred Ajay Devgan. Her performance won her the Filmfare Best Actress Award. Her performances in Tehzeeb (2003) and Pinjar (2003) were also appreciated. She also won the Bollywood Best Actress Award for her role as Anupam Kher’s daughter in Maine Gandhi Ko Nahin Mara (2005).2006 to 2009 Matondkar was also seen in Banaras (2006), Bas Ek Pal (2006) and in the song Mehbooba in Ram Gopal Varma Ki Aag (2007) which was a remake of Sholay. In Karzzzz (2009) which starred Himesh Reshamiyya and was a remake of Karz, she played the role originally played by Simi Garewal. The movie was an average success.She will be lending her voice to Nikhil Advani’s Ab Dilli Door Nahin Hai, an animation.

Tabassum Hashmi (Tabu) Biography

Tabassum Hashmi was born under the Scorpion sunsign on 4th November 1970 in Hyderabad, India. Her parents are Jamal Hashmi and Rizwana who are divorced. Her mother was a school teacher while her grandparents were professors themselves who after retiring ran a school. Tabu’s older sister is an actress Farah Naaz and her aunt is actress and social activist Shabana Azmi.Tabu did her schooling in St Anne’s High School, Hyderabad. She also studied at St Xavier’s College, Mumbai. Tabu was known to be romantically involved with Sajid Nadiadwala, Sanjay Kapoor, Nagarjuna and Upen Patel. Her height is 5’8.5” making her one of the tallest actresses in Bollywood.1985 to 1997 Tabu’s first movie was as a child actor in Hum Naujawan (1985) as Devanand’s daughter. In 1994, she had two releases Pehla Pehla Pyaar and Vijaypath. Her performance in Vijaypath won her the Filmfare Best Female Debut Award. In the Tamil movie Kadhal Desam (1996) she was seen with Abbas and Vineeth as a girl both of them love. She won the Filmfare Best Actress Award (Tamil) for her role as Divya. The same year her performance in the critically acclaimed Gulzar’s Maachis was considered brilliant. She played a Punjabi girl Veeru whose brother is tortured by the police and her fiancé gets caught up in terrorism. She won the National Film Award for Best Actress. She also made her mark in Telugu movies by winning the Filmfare Best Actress Award (Telugu) for Ninne Pelladatha.Tabu had another round of hits with Virasat and Border in 1997. In Priyadarshan’s Virasat, which was a remake of Thevar Magan, she played a village girl Gehna. It won her the Filmfare Critic’s Award for Best Performance. 1998 to 2003 She was seen in a comedy Chachi 420 (1998) with Kamal Hasan. She proved herself yet again with her act as Panna in Gulzar’s Hu Tu Tu (1999) which won her the Filmfare Critic’s Award for Best Performance. Her next role was lighter, as Lovely in the comedy Biwi No.1 (1999). She was seen in another comedy Hera Pheri (2000). She was seen as Soumiya in the Tamil movie Kandukondain Kandukondain (2000), which was based on Jane Austen’s Sense and Sensibility and had Aishwarya Rai playing her younger sister. In Mahesh Manjrekar’s Astitva (2000) she again delivered a powerful performance as Aditi, a woman trapped in an unhappy marriage that leads to an extra marital affair. She won the Filmfare Critic’s Award for Best Performance.Madhur Bhandarkar’s Chandni Bar (2001) saw her as Mumtaz, a bar girl, which won her another National Film Award for Best Actress. She was seen as Nimmi, Lady Macbeth’s counterpart in Bollywood, in Maqbool (2003). 2004 to 2009 Tabu became artist M.F.Hussain’s muse after Madhuri Dixit and appeared in Meenaxi: A Tale of Three Cities (2004). Mira Nair’s The Namesake (2007), an adaptation of Jhumpa Lahiri’s novel, received international acclaim. She was cast as the Bengali bride Ashima who moves to the U.S after getting married and the life she creates with her husband there and their son Gogol’s struggle with his identity. Cheeni Kum (2007) saw her hold her own opposite Amitabh Bachchan as his much younger lover and won her the Filmfare Critic’s Award for Best Performance. In 2009, Tabu has several Hindi and Tamil movies awaiting release like Anurag Singh’s Next, Season’s Greetings, Banda Yeh Bindaas Hai and Thalaivan Irukirran.
